Isosorbide is a 100% biomass material made from food-derived starch, such as corn.

It has a rigid bicyclic diol structure and can be used as an alternative to existing petroleum-derived raw materials. By using it as a substitute for polymer raw materials such as polycarbonate, polyester, polyurethane, and epoxy, it contributes not only to an increase in the ratio of plant-derived raw materials but also to the improvement of physical properties. ■ Isosorbide produced by Samyang InnoChem, a subsidiary of the South Korean Samyang Group. ■ Obtained ISCC Plus certification in November 2023. ISCC Plus is an international certification granted to sustainable and low-carbon products that comply with the EU's Renewable Energy Directive (RED). ■ Functionality: Improvement of physical properties such as light transmittance, light resistance, scratch resistance, heat resistance, and chemical resistance. ■ Applications: Home appliances, automotive interiors and exteriors, food containers, cosmetic containers, building materials, coatings, films, etc. ■ Handling of isosorbide derivatives is available. ■ Renewable materials for realizing a sustainable society.
